Elevate Chattanooga: Continuing Ministry Education Scholarship

The Elevate Chattanooga: Continuing Ministry Education Scholarship (Elevate Chattanooga) is an offspring of the Dora Maclellan Brown Scholarship. The scholarship intends to meet the needs of ministry leaders who seek to take continuing education and/or class(es) to assist them in their selected field of ministry.

The Elevate Chattanooga scholarship intends to meet the needs of ministry leaders who seek to take continuing education and/or class(es) to assist them in their selected field of ministry.

The Elevate Scholarship is a one-time financial award designed to cover the cost of one course. The Elevate Scholarship is NOT for those embarking on a two- or three-year seminary program or counseling program. The DMB Seminary Scholarship and/or the Timothy Scholarship is a much better fit for that student. A student who receives an Elevate Scholarship is not eligible to apply for a 2nd Elevate Scholarship.

An example of a typical candidate for the Elevate Scholarship is a bi-vocational pastor in the Chattanooga area who graduated from high school and began working in a trade or profession. Then, the Lord called him to preach and pastor a small congregation, and he has been doing both jobs to the best of his ability. A ministry friend told him about a 3-credit hour course offered in basic theology, or a 4-hour course in preaching, something he can complete over a two or three month time period, and something that will definitely improve his ability to minister to his congregation. The approximate cost of the course is $1,500 – something that would stretch his family’s budget. TGT would receive his application, review the information and, if approved, make payment directly to the school or seminary offering the course, as a payment on his account.

There are essentially three groups of Christian men and women who are eligible to apply for and receive this scholarship. Those who:

1. work and live in the greater Chattanooga area (see definition in guidelines)
2. are theologically and biblically conservative, and
3. are seeking to continue their education in Christian service work

The Elevate Chattanooga scholarship committee consist of members of the Dora Maclellan Brown scholarship committee. The scholarship amount will be determined on a case-by-case basis. The average amount of the Elevate Chattanooga scholarship is between $1,000 and $3,000.
