Donor-Advised Fund FAQs

Are donations to my Donor-Advised Fund tax-deductible?

Yes. You will be given a tax-deductible receipt for your gifts into your Donor-Advised Fund and you can make as many gifts into your fund as you like.

How do I access my Donor-Advised Fund online?

On the upper right-hand corner of the website is a button called “Fund Login.” Simply click this link to take you to the fund management area.

What is a grant?

A grant is a monetary gift you recommend to be given to a charitable organization from your Donor-Advised Fund.

Is there a minimum grant amount?

No. Grants can be any size.

How many grants do I have to make each year?

You can send out one grant a year, or fifty grants a month. It’s totally up to you. We do all the administrative work of verifying the organization, writing and mailing the check, and following up to make sure the check was received.

Can I make anonymous grants?

Yes. Grants can be sent anonymously.

Can I give to an individual through my Giving Fund?

We cannot make grants to individuals. All grants must be sent to an IRS approved organization or church. The Generosity Trust does have an innovative scholarship program to help support qualifying individuals raise support for college, seminary and other educational opportunities. Read more in Timothy Scholarships.

How quickly can The Generosity Trust make a grant from my Donor-Advised Fund?

We generally mail grant checks on the same day you recommend the grant. However, if the ministry or church is a new ministry to us, this process may take several days. In those cases, we are required to do due diligence to ensure that the ministry is indeed a 501(c)(3) organization, and not engaged in any activity we would not want to be associated with. We also have to ensure that no benefits would potentially flow back to you.

How can I check my balance and see a record of grants made with my Donor-Advised Fund?

When you start a Donor-Advised Fund you immediately get online access to your account where you can make gifts, look up previous grants, make grant recommendations, and more. Quarterly statement are posted online or can be mailed by request.

What types of gifts can I use to fund my Giving Fund?

We can accept cash, checks, publicly traded securities, real estate (with no debt), privately-held stock (like in an S-corp or a C-corp or an LLC), and other creative gifts as well. We’d be happy to talk with you and work with your financial advisors to help you make the most of your charitable giving.

How much do Donor-Advised Funds cost to set up and maintain?
There are no costs to establish our traditional pass-through Giving Fund, and no costs for grant checks, mailings, statements, or online access.  TGT keeps the interest earned on these assets to help cover the cost of providing these services.  If you opt for a Growth, Managed, or Blended Fund, there are minimal costs incurred by the Fund to help cover our services – costs ranging from 0.25% to 1.25%, depending upon the type of Fund selected.
